Home News & Articles Complete Guide to Online Roulette Bets

Whether you play it online or live with friends, roulette is a thoroughly entertaining game. It is a game of luck that requires little to no strategy, so everyone can get immersed quickly. However, learning all the bets at your disposal can be tricky, particularly if you play live.

You can take advantage of many wagering scenarios, thus creating many ways to enhance your chances for big wins. The biggest challenge of playing live is making bets while the wheel is spinning. Not knowing how to make bets, what bets to make and how they work might bog the game down significantly.

If you want to hit an online casino, understanding the bet types is a great idea. It is natural to want to know what you are doing, what you are betting on and why. Additionally, if you know the payouts, odds and house edge of each wager, you can make a more certain guess of how much risk to take. Read the article to learn everything about roulette wagers.

Outside Bets

Those bets are made on the perimeter of the roulette table, meaning the wagers do not cover specific numbers. They usually revolve around a group of colours or numbers.

Red/Black

The most popular and the simplest bet on the wheel, and you need to guess where the ball will stop. You can choose a red or a black number, and it is an even-money bet (1:1). However, the casino has its advantage due to the numbers 0 and 00, where your odds of winning are less than half.

Odd/Even

You bet on whether the ball will stop on an odd or even number in another even-money wager. Again, your chances of winning are less than 50% due to the single or double zero.

High/Low

A similar bet to the previous ones, this one lets you place a wager on a group of low (1-18) or high (19-36) numbers. The zeros prevent this one from giving you an even chance to win.

Columns

These bets are placed on the ball to land in one of the three columns of the wheel, each covering twelve numbers. Given your chances to win, you will double your money if you do it. The columns start with the numbers 1, 2 and 3, respectively, and contain every third number of the streak.

Dozens

This wager also covers twelve numbers, but in order, the first one goes 1-12, the second 13-24, and the third 25-36. It doubles your money, granting you 2:1.

Inside Bets

Inside bets cover all the picks that come from inside the number rectangle. You can make numerous wagers; the following sections will say something about them.

Straight Up

This wager enables you to bet on any single number on the wheel. If the ball stops there, you win; if not, you lose. Straight bets pay 35:1 each.

Split

Split is an opposite bet from the Straight-Up one, for you place a wager on the line between two numbers. If the ball lands on any of them, you win. You can lay a split bet if two numbers are next to each other. The win pays 17:1.

Street

These wagers are sometimes called trio or steam bets, and you place a bet on the ball to land in any three numbers in a sequence. This means you can bet on 1,2,3, or 25,26, or 27. This bet pays 11:1 if you score a win.

Corner

Like the split wager, this one will have you betting on four numbers that must touch and form a square. For example, you can place a bet on 1,2,4,5 or 2,3,5,6. These bets are called square or four-number bets, paying 8:1.

Line

Line bets are six-number wagers that have to be on two consecutive rows. This wager covers two rows of three numbers and pays 5:1. Examples include 1-6, 4-9, 13-18, 31-36, etc.

Five-Number Bet

This wager is sometimes called the “top-line“ bet and includes 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. The ball must land on some of those numbers, so the bet’s other moniker is far from the truth. This wager is one of the worst in the game, with a 13.16% chance of winning, and the house pays 6:1.

Basket

This wager covers four numbers, the so-called “first four“ bet. Hence, the covered numbers include 0, 1, 2 and 3. You can earn 6:1.

Snake Bet

This wager is unique and covers a particular set of numbers, including 1, 9, 12, 14, 5, 19, 16, 32, 23, 27, 34, and 30. The name comes from the pattern made by the highlighted numbers. Since 12 numbers are covered, the payout is 2:1.

Call Bets

Call bets are not available at every online casino but only on French and European roulette tables. They are announced or called out; sometimes, they mean you are playing on credit. That is why these types of bets are illegal in some parts of the world.

Voisins du Zero

It means neighbours of zero and covers the numbers closest to zero, including 22 and 25. Other included numbers are 0, 2, 3, 4, 7, 12, 15, 18, 19, 21, 26, 28 and 29. The bet requires at least nine chips for a trio, a corner, and five splits.

Jeu Zero

It means zero game and includes the numbers closest to zero, namely 0, 3, 12, 15, 26, 32 and 35. The wager requires four chips for three split and one straight bet (number 26).

Tiers du Cylindre

This bet is laid on wheel thirds, between and including numbers 27 and 33. The twelve numbers that make up this bet include 11, 27, 36, 23, 8, 5, 24, 33, 13, 30, 10, and 16. You need six chips to place this bet.

Orphelins

Two slices of the wheel (outside Voisins and Tiers) make up the basis for this wager. The eight numbers include 1, 6, 9, 14, 17, 20, 31 and 34, with a straight-up on one and four splits.

Neighbours

This wager is put on a number backed up by two numbers on each side in a five-piece set. You can combine this bet with any of the previously listed.

Other Bets

The rest of the bets include Final Bets (wagering on “final“ digits of the number). You get back half your bet with Imprisonment Bets (only on French Roulette). Some of the most popular wagers are complete bets, which include betting on all variants, including a particular number.

When you understand all the bets correctly, find an online casino and try playing for free to wet your feet. When you master the concept, you will be ready for real-money action. Stay with OnlineGambling24 to find out other important facts to help you play responsibly.
