Home News & Articles Introduction to Outside Bets in Online Roulette

Two main categories of Roulette bets are inside and outside wagers. On our gaming portal, we have already explained how inside bets work. Now, let us provide you with information on outside bets you can play at Roulette tables.

Here, on OnlineGambling24, you can find a plethora of useful information that can help you become more successful at online games. If you are new to the game of Roulette, make sure to read this article and thank us later.

Roulette Outside Bets Explained

While inside bets include a range of wagers you place on specific numbers within the numbered boxes on the betting layout, Roulette outside bets are just what their name suggests. They are placed outside the area with numbers. These are some of the best casino bets as they involve less risk. As such, they are the best option for less experienced players.

Roulette Outside Bets Involve Less Risk
Instead of betting on specific numbers and their combinations, with outside bets, you predict that the ball will land within a group of numbers with particular properties. Their names are straightforward and reflect the features, so you have Red/Black, High/Low, and so on. While outside bets are more likely to win, the payouts they offer are lower, which makes them less attractive to those players who like to win big in a single round.

Types of Outside Bets

Let’s learn more about outside bets and payouts they grant before you join a Roulette table. Keep in mind that you cannot bet on zero with outside bets.

  • Column Bet

Once you load a Roulette game, you will notice that its betting layout contains 36 numbers. These are divided into three columns, and the Column wager allows you to bet on a line of 12 numbers. To play the Column bet, you need to place your chip on the box labelled 2-to-1. It is the value of the payout you can win when playing this type of outside bets.

  • Dozen Bet

This is another outside bet that pays 2:1. You will easily find them on the table as they are labelled 1st 12 (or Dozen, depending on the game you join), 2nd 12 and 3rd 12. Each of them covers 12 consecutive numbers, 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36.

  • Even-Money Bets

If you want to play safe, this is a subcategory of Roulette bets you should go for. Even-money bets include all bets at a Roulette table that pay a 1:1 payout. You will find them below Dozen bets, and they are labelled based on their property. So, you can bet on Black or Red, Odd or Even numbers or High or Low numbers.

If you place your bet on Red or Black, you predict that the ball will land on a red or black pocket regardless of the number. When playing the Odd or Even bet, you predict that the ball will stop on an odd or even number. Finally, if you make a High or Low wager, you bet on the ball landing on any of the numbers from 1 to 18 or 19 to 36 respectively, as simple as that.

No matter which even-money wager you choose to play, an expected payout stands at 1:1. To put it simply, if you wager €1 and win, you will get paid €2, which means that you win €1 and get your original stake back. When playing Column or Dozen bets, on a €1 bet you earn €3, meaning that you win €2 plus your initial wager.

What About French Roulette?

French Roulette tables use different terminology with the names of the bets coming in French. So, Red/Black bets are Rouge/Noir, Odd/Even become Impair/Pair and High/Low bets are labelled Passe/Manque.

When playing this version of the game, the La Partage and En Prison rule can help you keep your money when playing even-money bets and the ball lands on zero. We will explain how they work in future articles, so stay tuned.
