January was a significant month for online gambling in Michigan. The state’s Gaming Control Board greenlighted the launch of the recently-regulated market. It went live on Friday, January 22, with nine operators starting a new era in the Great Lakes State.

Two casinos that immediately offered their services to players in Michigan were Wynn Resorts and Golden Nugget.

Wynn Resorts opened its virtual doors on the very same day online gaming and sports betting commenced. The casino offers its customers a wide selection of sports and casino games. Golden Nugget launched its online gambling portfolio using the Scientific Games platform.

A Big Name Joins the Party

But probably the most prominent name that has entered the new market is Swedish gaming giant NetEnt. The company became the first software provider to offer its content in Michigan.

This is an essential move for NetEnt, crucial in increasing its US market footprint, especially since the Swedes have been present there since day one.

BetMGM, Churchill Downs, WynnBET, BetRivers/RSI DraftKings, Golden Nugget, FanDuel and William Hill have established their presence in Michigan. All of them have games developed by NetEnt in their respective portfolios.

These games are proven hits, popular among players of all types and ages. The list includes Starburst, Divine Fortune and Blackjack. Customers in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia have enjoyed them for some time now. These states have already regulated their markets, and NetEnt was among the first to expand there.

New Jersey went live in 2015, Pennsylvania and West Virginia in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

Jeff Millar, Commercial Director at Evolution Group, was happy to announce the move. He said the launch had been planned for months, using the vast experience they had in the US. The fact NetEnt went live with several operators showed they meant business. According to Millar, the US has been an important market for Evolution over recent years. The first-day presence in Michigan indicates the priority it has for the Group.

Strengthening Its Positions

NetEnt’s debut in Michigan shows Evolution Group’s position as a leading supplier of online games in the country.

NetEnt is regarded to be one of the front-runners in the US market. It’s easy to see why. Apart from Michigan, the company already has an extensive presence in the states we mentioned earlier.

NetEnt has the ambition to strengthen its position in the US market.

In all these states, NetEnt’s games have been available since day one. And it’s only going to get better. Evolution has ambitious plans for the US and will soon launch a new studio in Michigan. The state-of-the-art venue will start broadcasting later this year.

That will be Evolution’s third live casino studio in the country, and eleventh worldwide.

Millar also spoke about future plans. He explained the company was looking forward to adding more operators to its partner list during this year. He even revealed that a roadmap of the upcoming launches had already been made.

Evolution

No doubt Evolution Group and NetEnt are ready to explore new markets in the US. Their partners will also enjoy this strategy. As soon as they go live, they’ll be able to offer their content to customers across the States.

Evolution bought NetEnt in late last year, in a $2.36 billion deal. The merger saw the creation of a provider with the potential of being at the forefront of the industry. The two sides combined provide content for the majority of leading online casinos in Europe. And the plans are now even more ambitious. Exciting times are ahead, especially for a rapidly-growing market such as American.
