We have a habit of romanticising the past, whether that be medieval kingdoms or the era we grew up in. RetroVerse takes us back to the 1980s, though not in the usual form of neon lights and Miami coastline. Instead, it focuses on the glory days of the arcade, when gaming was all about setting a high score. We hope you brought a lot of pennies, because RetroVerse will not go easy on you.
With a 10,000x top prize on the line, can you put your name on top of the leaderboard? Keep reading to see if this Push Gaming slot is the right choice for you.
RetroVerse Visuals
Players looking to dive back into old-school gaming will be quite pleased with the graphics. The playing area is surrounded by an arcade machine, helping to immerse you in the world of retro gaming. On both sides, you can see other gaming cabinets, which promise new games whose high scores have yet to be beaten. Triggering the bonus round turns the backdrop from a cool blue to an overpowering pink-purple. Even the look of the machines changes!
Paying symbols appear as game controllers, each with a different shape and colour. Higher-value controllers have a more elaborate design and eyes, which set them apart from their low-paying counterparts. A golden arcade cabinet is Wild, while a retro video game console is the Scatter. Other special symbols to look out for are Wild Mystery icons, coins, game cartridges, light guns and magnets.
RetroVerse Gameplay and Features
You play the RetroVerse slot on a 6×9 grid with cluster wins replacing standard paylines. Forming wins requires five or more symbols to be adjacent vertically or horizontally. Winning combinations can appear anywhere in the playing area. Cascading reels are in effect, meaning symbols that contributed to a win will disappear. This allows existing icons to drop and take their place while new ones appear from the top, potentially resulting in new wins.

Wilds
While Push Gaming doesn’t reinvent the Wild, it doesn’t leave it as a standard substitution icon either. Every Wild appears with a multiplier ranging from 1x to 10x. If a Wild is part of a cluster win, its multiplier will increase the payout accordingly. If several Wilds are part of the same winning cluster, the multipliers get applied to the final reward one after another.
Wilds also become sticky after a win, remaining in the same position. They will disappear when no more cluster wins are possible. Additionally, each time a Wild is part of a winning combination, its multiplier increases by one.
Wild Mystery Symbol
New to the Retro series is the Wild Mystery Symbol. As its name implies, it can fill in for all paying symbols, though it doesn’t have an attached multiplier. Instead, this icon can level up to three times when it lands. The number of cluster wins it is a part of determines its level.
Unlocking all three levels will replace the Wild Mystery Symbol with a multiplier Wild, Scatter, or magnet symbol. It can also grant a cash prize up to 500x if the maximum number of Scatters are already on the grid.
During free spins, Wild Mystery Icons will only open if the win cluster contains the right number of instant win and collector symbols. It will then open to reveal either an instant prize, a multiplier Wild, a Magnet, a Multiplicator, or a Collector icon.
Instant Prize Symbols
These icons can appear anywhere on the grid with cash prizes ranging from 1x to 500x. Like regular paying symbols, they must form a cluster of 5 or more icons before a win is paid out. However, the advantage instant prize symbols have is that you don’t need five of the same icon to appear. Any combination of instant prize symbols is valid.
Magnet
When a magnet appears on the grid, it randomly selects a paying symbol and attracts all matching icons to its position, creating a cluster win. Magnets can also drag in Wild, Wild Mystery, and instant prize icons. The latter can only be dragged over if there are at least four of them in view. The magnet will then transform into a matching paying or instant prize symbol.
Light Gun
Light gun icons will select two random paying symbols and remove all instances of those symbols from the grid. This will trigger a cascade, potentially forming new winning combinations.
Free Spins
Three or more Scatters anywhere on the grid will activate the Free Spins feature. You can get between 6 and 12 free spins based on how many Scatters trigger the bonus round. Any Wilds, Wild Mystery symbols, and instant prizes from the base game are carried over into this feature in the same position they previously occupied.
Apart from these icons, you start with a blank grid. Each spin can then add multiplier Wilds, Wild Mystery symbols, instant prizes, magnets, and extra spin icons. Instant prize symbols remain locked in place for the duration of the feature and only pay out after all the free spins run out. Previously blank spaces can also remain blank and do not award any prizes.
Two new symbols can appear during the feature: Collectors and Multiplicators. Collectors will scoop up all the instant prize symbols within their cluster and remove them from the reels. Multiplicators hold values from 2x to 10x and multiply the value of all adjacent instant prize and Collector symbols.
Push Bet and Bonus Buy
If you’re willing to pay extra per spin, you can enable the Push Bet option. It comes in two flavours: Boost and Mega Boost. Boost increases your chance to get free spins by 2.5x while raising your wager by 50%. Meanwhile, Mega Boost makes the Free Spins feature 9.5x more likely to trigger at the cost of increasing your base bet by 150%.
Alternatively, you can use the Bonus Buy option to purchase free spins outright. Once again, you have two options: standard Free Spins and Super Free Spins. Free Spins cost 120x your stake and simply activate the bonus round. Super Free Spins guarantees three Wild Mystery symbols will appear on the grid and costs 280x your bet.
RetroVerse RTP and Payouts
The standard RTP when playing RetroVerse is 96.24%. However, enabling the Push Bet and Bonus Buy features can help you achieve a better RTP. The best bang for your buck is the Boost Push Bet, which bumps the RTP up to 96.42%.
Of course, Push Gaming isn’t going to let you get away with its 10,000x top prize easily. The slot’s high variance ensures you’ll need luck and commitment alike to come close to the jackpot.
