Home News & Articles Inside Evolution’s Lightning Series: Games Worth Your Time

As one of the leading live casino software providers, Evolution is constantly under pressure to innovate and develop new products. This has resulted in many top-tier titles over the years, which fundamentally change how we approach our favourite games. Sometimes, the changes come from tweaking the rules. However, an increasingly popular alternative is to add multipliers to the mix.

This idea is the basis behind Evolution’s Lightning series of games. The developers take a popular game and figure out the best way to introduce random multipliers in every round. Over the years, they’ve tackled everything from baccarat, roulette, blackjack, dice, and more. We explore a couple of Lightning games and what makes them special in this article.

Lightning Roulette

Lightning Roulette was the first game in the Lightning series, and for many, remains the best of the bunch. The game follows standard European roulette rules. There are 37 numbers, and you can place a variety of inside and outside bets to predict which one will win. There’s no limit on the number of players, which adds to the game’s popularity.

After you place bets, the game will choose up to five numbers and apply random multipliers to them. These multipliers range from 50x to 500x your bet, ensuring an impressive payout if they go through. Only direct number bets can benefit from the multipliers, so keep that in mind when planning your wagers.

The game was popular enough for Evolution to release a follow-up, XXXTreme Lightning Roulette, a few years later. The core gameplay remains the same, except the multipliers can climb much higher. If you find standard Lightning Roulette too safe, we recommend trying this variant.

Lightning Blackjack

Lightning Blackjack is one of the later additions to the series, and for good reason. Given how strategic the game can be, adding random multipliers in a way that makes sense isn’t easy. Fortunately, Evolution figured out a way to tackle the issue. Rather than have multipliers appearing on specific cards, they’re tied to the hand total.

The game can award a multiplier ranging from 2x to 25x for totals of 17 and under, 18, 19, 20, 21, and Blackjack. To activate a multiplier, you need to win a round with that particular total. However, the multiplier does not increase your reward for the current round. To benefit from it, you need to win with the same hand total in the next round.

If you split and end up with two winning hands, the multiplier will apply only to the hand with the best score.

Lightning Storm

Evolution was at the forefront of pushing game shows into the mainstream for live casino players. Because of that, it’s no surprise that one would end up being part of the Lightning series. Like in other games with the Lightning moniker, random multipliers up to 50x can increase your potential payout.

The team draws inspiration from earlier game shows and introduces five bonus rounds. While each one plays differently, they’re all totally random, with little room for player strategy. The best thing you can do is kick back and enjoy the spectacle. However, we recommend keeping your fingers crossed, as every so often, a bonus round and the Lightning multiplier overlap to create jaw-dropping wins.

The Lightning series is expansive, spanning many games. The releases we highlighted here are personal favourites and commonly appear among the most popular online casino releases. However, if they don’t strike your fancy, the series offers many more titles that will keep you glued to your seat. Other popular lightning games we recommend are Lightning Baccarat, Lightning Dice, Lightning Dragon Tiger, Lightning Sic Bo, and Lightning Bac Bo.
