The Netherlands kicked off this month by launching its regulated online gambling market to allow players in this country to play online casino games and wager on sports legally.
The long-awaited enactment of the Remote Gambling Act had finally made online gambling legal after years and decades of prohibiting this popular activity.
Initially, the said piece of legislation was scheduled to go into effect in July last year, while the market should have been up and running by the start of 2021. Unfortunately for all the fans of online gambling, the start date was pushed back half a year in late 2019.
Following another push back, the act was ready to be enacted on March 1, 2021. Eventually, the law went into effect on April 1, allowing the newly-regulated market to go live six months later on October 1.
Microgaming Already Up and Running
One of the leading names in online gambling, Microgaming, was among the first to establish its presence in the new Dutch market. The gaming giant offered licensed operators the opportunity to gain access to its range of high-quality gaming content from the first moment the market opened.
Microgaming’s content is already available at a number of Dutch operators, including the state-owned Nederlandse Loterij. The operator’s casino brand TOTO has already obtained the Dutch license and offers the developer’s portfolio to its customers.

At this moment, the company’s aggregation platform offers more than 200 Microgaming releases. The lineup includes both new and popular online slot games, as well as the company’s offering of progressive jackpots.
In addition to slots developed by Microgaming, the platform includes a wide variety of games created by the Isle of Man-based studio’s partners. Players in the Netherlands will be able to enjoy over sixty titles produced by the likes of Inspired, Oryx, Spearhead and Stakelogic. According to available information, games from Spinstars should soon join this list.
Microgaming provided its operators with all the necessary help during the application process, which took place earlier this year. The company offered comprehensive documentation and information to help them get ready for the introduction of the new regulations.
Commenting on the move, Julie Allison, Director of Markets at Microgaming, said it represented another essential step in the company’s expansion into regulated markets. She pointed out the Netherlands offered lots of opportunities for both the company and its customers.
Evolution Joins in on the Action
It didn’t take long for Evolution to join in on the fun. The renowned supplier of online casino games partnered with Janshen-Hahnraths Group to offer Dutch customers to enjoy its extensive lineup of exciting content, including slots from NetEnt and Red Tiger Gaming, live casino, and RNG-based games.
Janshen-Hahnraths Group has been in the market for more than six decades, and it’s best known for its Fair Play Casinos. A total of 38 land-based gaming venues are scattered across the Netherlands, offering players mostly slot machine games and roulette. Following the Dutch online gambling market launch, the company plans to establish a strong presence. Joining forces with Evolution proves they mean business.
