Roulette Variations

As you probably already know, there are two main roulette variations;. European - and American roulette. They differ in their house edge. Next to this two there are many others.

The American version has an extra double zero pocket which gives the casino an even bigger advantage over the player. European roulette is the more popular version and this is mostly due to the fact that it has a lower house edge.

Nevertheless, roulette is highly popular and thanks to the countless variations in online casinos, we don’t really think it’ll go out of style anytime soon.

Main Roulette Variations

> European Roulette ; European roulette is the most standard variation in casinos and online casinos. It is the oldest version of roulette and the most popular as well, thanks to the 2.70% house edge.

The European roulette wheel has the numbers 1-36 printed on it, along with a single zero (house) pocket. This means there’s a total of 37 numbers in play. The roulette layout features more than a few main and side bets with many of the main ones paying even money. The inside and outside bets differ greatly in probability, with the outside bets paying less.

> American Roulette ; The biggest difference between European and American roulette is the addition of the double zero pocket in the American version. This extra pocket doesn’t just add to the total numbers on the wheel – it also impacts how the game is played. Although the bets are essentially the same, the house edge of the American roulette wheel is 5.26%, which is much higher than the European version. Due to higher house edge, American roulette is not much popular outside the USA. If you have the option to pick between them, always go European.

> French Roulette ; Although not technically a separate roulette variant, French roulette is popular in French casinos and adds a few exciting features such as the En Prison and La Partage rule. This variation uses the European roulette wheel, but the even money bets pay back half to the player. Getting 50% of your stake back is not exactly a win, but hey, it’s better than losing it all, right?

French roulette is a bit harder to learn unless you can speak French and the two extra rules can take a bit of time getting used to. Still, it’s a great variation that offers you the option to control your losses.

Online Variations

The game of roulette hasn’t really seen many transformations over the years, with the two main (or three if you like) variations staying the same for quite a long time. With the evolution of online gambling, however, roulette’s popularity exploded once again due to the incredible number of new variations.

Between Mini Roulette, Multi-Wheel Roulette, Triple Bonus Spin Roulette, Lightning Roulette, Immersive Roulette, and other live roulette versions, online casino players are truly spoiled with choices. All these roulette variations add new exciting features to the amazing game of chance, making it more attractive for new and seasoned casino players.

A very exciting live game[/caption]A variation of live roulette, Immersive Roulette was developed by industry giants Evolution Gaming and it became an instant hit with players as soon as it released. It offers a premium experience which includes slow-motion action and replays in an unparalleled, full HD quality stream.

With more than a few camera angles you can see the action from, Immersive Roulette puts players in the heart of the action, which is exactly the reason why it’s such a big hit.

Mini Roulette is essentially a stripped-down version of roulette, featuring only 13 pockets. Due to this, the bets are adjusted as well. Mini roulette is gaining a lot of traction with casino players at the moment and is aimed at new players who’d like to get the hang of things before playing in the ‘major league’.

Introduced in online casinos only recently, multi-wheel roulette is a challenging experience for the biggest roulette fans. As the name suggests, this version of roulette features more than a single wheel, usually 2-8. Most online casinos offer the 6-wheel version which is more than enough if you ask us.

Players can put multiple bets on multi-wheel roulette and spin them all at the same time. Of course, the payout is significantly higher, but the odds are higher as well. It’s hard to use a strategy in this roulette version and if we’re being honest, it’s hard to win as well, so unless you’re a pro looking for a challenge, we suggest staying away from it. Or at least try it out for free before playing with money.

Lightning roulette is an extended variant of roulette which features up to 5 lucky numbers with a 50x or 500x multiplier per round. The bets are the same as what you get in Live Roulette, with the biggest difference being the payout.

Lightning Roulette

It’s an electrifying experience that can fill your pockets with money should you predict the spin right. With a theoretical RTP of 97.10%, it’s no wonder why players love it so much.
