Proprietary slots have never been a major thing in the iGaming industry. Some casinos do have enough clout to temporarily make games exclusive to their platform. Like when LeoVegas snatched BTG’s Who Wants to be a Millionaire. And even then, that was a temporary arrangement that didn’t even last a full month!
Software providers who also run their own casinos are rare, and GiG didn’t fall into this category until quite recently. A technology company with a B2B focus, their forays into consumer facing brands are relatively new.
About GiG Games
GiG Games is a subsidiary of Gaming Innovation Group, shortened to GiG, which is based in Malta. GiG runs its own operators and affiliates, creates proprietary software, and has its fingers in every online gambling pie.
The company has not one, but two offices in Malta! There’s the HQ overlooking St George’s Bay, and an office building just a few minutes away. However, GiG also has offices in Denmark, Norway and Gibraltar, which gives their teams a truly global perspective. As for GiG Games, specifically? They’re based in sunny Marbella, in Spain.
Originally, GiG Games was only a tool to enhance casinos owned by the group. It’s only recently that we have seen the studio shifting for larger, more exposed platforms. This shift in policy came around in 2018, and that’s when we see the first slots carrying the GiG Games brand! Everything’s built with HTML5, and all their releases are supported on multiple devices. So there’s no excuse not to try at least one of them!
A nice part of being a game studio supported by an existing gambling giant are licenses! Straight off the gate, GiG Games are licensed in Malta, the United Kingdom, New Jersey, Germany and Sweden. Last we’ve heard, the team is also working on licenses in Denmark and Spain. Soon, you’ll truly be able to play their slots anywhere!
GiG Games Slots
The software provider lacks any real hard-hitters just yet. This isn’t surprising, as GiG Games as a separate entity is brand new. That said, their releases do show some real promise! We’ve yet to come across a slot made by this developer whose RTP dips below 96%. The vast majority of them lean closer to 97% than 96%. And if you’re an avid fan of slots, you’ll know how impressive that is in this industry.
The library GiG Games currently offers is quite limited. There’s a grand total of six slots you can play, with more on the way. We’ll take a brief look at each one, so you know what you can expect from this developer.
- Wilds Reels
- Book of Souls
- Midnight Madness
- Popstar
The 80’s aesthetic is everywhere, to the point where it’s losing its charm. But if you ever want to return to a world of disco, then this slot has you covered! Sure, you’ll have to contend with a few fruits here and there. But what truly makes Wild Reels shine is the special feature it takes its name from! On each spin, there’s a chance up to three reels will display only Wilds! Combined with free spins, it’s incredibly lucrative.
What do you get when Lara Croft and Indiana Jones have a baby? You get Lara Croft and her adventures in this game! If you’ve got a fear of snakes, we don’t recommend trying this release out. Unfortunately, it can be hard to resist: especially when this is GiG’s version of the famous Book of Ra series. It borrows the Scatter-Wilds and the expanding icon, and adds randomly appearing snake Wilds. So that means up to ten Wilds appearing on the board during each regular spin. Sign us up!
If Wild Reels wasn’t 80’s enough for you, give this slot a try! Fruit machines meet neon lights in one of the most aesthetically attractive games we have ever played. But what truly stood out to us was the gameplay. It offers fifteen independent 3×1 boards on a single interface, with a top prize worth 15,000x! However, it doesn’t offer any special features. The only thing you can do is continue spinning.
We imagine GiG Games expected this to be a much bigger hit than it actually ended up being. It’s certainly ambitious enough! Substituting symbols during free spins and increasing your odds of landing big wins can be addictive. Sadly, the experience is hampered by low-paying symbols and a volatility that’s too high for our liking.
