Mad Mad Monkey II Visuals & Sounds

We had expected the developers to do a complete overhaul of the graphics, seeing as this is a sequel. Instead, Light & Wonder decided to appeal to player nostalgia by leaving the visuals relatively untouched. The jungle is mostly hidden by the reels, but you can make out some details, like creeping vines and large shrubs. The thick forest almost covers the sky, giving the background image a slightly darker look.

Available symbols include playing card royals, peanuts, coconuts, frogs, snakes, and parrots. The smiling monkey is Wild, while the monkey’s face on a golden coin is the Scatter. Another bonus icon to watch out for is the banana, which is the Upgrade symbol.

Each time you press the Spin button, an upbeat jingle plays. It’s a tune that will immediately put you in the mood to explore the jungle, which makes the game feel more fun. When you aren’t actively spinning the reels, a subtle beat of drums pierces the silence. Each win and feature activation causes a loud sound effect, alerting players that something exciting has just happened.

Mad Mad Monkey II Gameplay & Features

Light & Wonder’s release is played on a 5×4 grid with 50 fixed paylines. To win, you need at least three matching symbols to appear in adjacent positions while following a payline. Winning combinations must start with the leftmost reel, or their reward will not be paid out.

Wilds

Wilds can appear on reels two, three, and four and substitute for all symbols except coin Scatters. If a Wild is part of a win, it doubles the payout, making it a valuable find.

Re-spin Feature

The Mad Mad Monkey II slot has a Re-spin feature that activates when 6+ coin Scatters are on the grid simultaneously. This grants three re-spins, during which all coins are held in place while other positions spin again. During the feature, only coins and banana symbols can land on the grid. Whenever a new symbol lands, the number of re-spins is reset, extending the feature.

Coin symbols appear with attached cash prizes. They can also award the minor and major fixed jackpots. Once they stop on the reels, coins become sticky and remain there until the Re-spin feature ends.

Meanwhile, banana icons upgrade all surrounding coin symbols, increasing their attached cash prizes. They are not sticky, meaning they will disappear from the reels after a re-spin is played. Every banana that appears will increase the banana counter by one, which is used in the Monkey Mad feature.

The feature continues until no more re-spins remain or all positions are filled with coins.

Monkey Mad

All collected bananas are released after the Re-spin bonus ends. Each one can reveal coins that occupy empty spots on the reels or multipliers that will increase a random coin prize by up to 5x. If you haven’t collected any bananas while re-spins were active, the Monkey Mad feature is skipped.

Fixed Jackpots

There are three fixed jackpots you can win while playing Mad Mad Monkey II.

The first two can be won more than once during the Re-spin feature. Winning them is as simple as a coin with minor or major written on it to appear on the reels. Meanwhile, the grand jackpot can only be won once and is awarded if you fill all reel positions with coins while re-spins are active.

Monkey Luck

Every Scatter that appears on the reels during normal gameplay can increase the banana tree meter. All wins are paid out first, after which up to six coins will drop on the reels while the meter empties. This always triggers the Re-spin feature.
