Whether by nurture or nature, they can never be friends. But sometimes, a creative application of both can create something new and interesting. We can’t claim this slot to be it, but we sure like how it makes use of those elements.

Fire & Ice Slot Review

Amatic’s game is played on a six reel board, where each reel is three symbols tall. Players are given two payline options: you can play on either one payline, or eleven of them. That’s weird by itself, but it’s made even weirder by the fact there are twenty paylines on either side of the playing field. We can only assume this release originally allowed for twenty, and the team changed it at some point.

To win, collect three or more identical icons in adjacent positions. All wins must start with the leftmost reel, and must follow one of the currently active paylines. Failure to do so means that you won’t receive the cash prize for that win.

Out of all possible special features, there’s just one available in Fire & Ice. Collect two bonus stars in the first and sixth reel to score yourself a free spins round! During that bonus, all bell Wilds are frozen in place for as long as extra turns last. Once it’s all done, they melt away, and it’s back to regular spins with you! Don’t worry, however. If you’re lucky enough, you can stay cool by retriggering free spins to be played again.

Theme & Symbols

The slot doesn’t really have much of a theme going on. It’s the same old fruit machine you’ve seen a thousand times over! In that regard, the name feels somewhat wasted. Amatic could have done something cool like have the reels and symbols freeze over during free spins, and melt afterwards. But beyond the background image, there’s not a lot of fire or ice to be seen anywhere in this game.

So, what kind of background can you expect to see here? Honestly, nothing spectacular. The entirety of the board is split in two. On one side, you have a warm orange glow. On the other lies the frigid blue of ice! And right in between is a mixture of both; a small dash of purple where the pair blend together. It looks alright, but that’s just it. It’s alright. Not good or great or amazing. Average should never be something any developer aims for.

Icon design feels equally uninspired in our eyes. It’s all fruits, with a few exceptions here and there. On the board, you’ll find lemons, cherries, plums, oranges, grapes, watermelons, bars, and lucky sevens. Occasionally, you’ll stumble across a bell which serves as this release’s Wild. The final two symbols you should keep a lookout for are the two stars: one orange, one blue. These are used to activate free spins, so be sure not to misplace them!

How to Play Fire & Ice

Fire & Ice is played on a 6×3 board with 11 flexible paylines. You can choose to have, or all eleven enabled at the same time. Your maximum cash prize is a satisfying 2500x your total stake. Of course, landing such a tantalizing prize is difficult, as you’d image. Thankfully, the special features are useful in making it happen; unlike in Admiral Nelson where all you can do is pray. It also helps that the bonus is actually fun to play!

Of course, whether something is fun or not can be subjective. But to us, sticky Wilds and free spins are a combination that never gets old! Each spin has a chance of creating more Wilds in various positions. It can be as thrilling as half the board being covered in Wilds. Or it can be just three Wilds, but placed in all the right spots so you get a guaranteed win each time!

Like with all previous Amatic slots, you go about changing your total bet by clicking the Bet screen. This reveals two meters which you can tweak somewhat. On the left are the number of available paylines. You can choose to have one, or eleven active. On the right, you can tweak your coin value. Depending on what version you stumble upon, it will either show you the coin value, or the actual wager you’re spending.
