The slot is played on a five reel board, where each reel is three symbols tall. There are a total of 20 flexible paylines, which can be turned on and off at will. To win, collect three or more identical icons in adjacent positions, starting with the leftmost reel. All winning combinations must follow one of the currently active paylines, or else the cash prize won’t be granted.

Special features are kept sweet and simple. Collect three or more Scatters from left to right to win eight free spins. During the bonus, the knife, canoe and hut icons also become Wild! If you land three or more Scatters appearing consecutively from left to right, you get to trigger more free spins. The mechanics are quite basic, but can grant a satisfying 6250 coin jackpot!

Theme & Symbols

We really don’t have a lot to say regarding the game’s theme. There are some efforts to keep to a tropical tune, but it’s clearly not a high priority for the developers. We can’t say we expected much from an online port of a physical machine. But it’s still something we’ll have to hold against this release, as other slots did it better. The thing is, we know Aristocrat can do better. Just look at Red Baron as an example.

The background image depicts multiple drawn figures on a large wall, lit up by flames. At least, we’re assuming so, since we don’t see the fire. But the way it transitions to crimson at the top, to a darker blue at the bottom? It suggests it’s being lit up by a nearby flame source. Perhaps a torch of some kind?

Symbol designs in Tiki Torch are dominated by generic playing card royals and numbers. You’ve seen most of these in other slots by this developer. That said, we can’t recall the last time we saw the number 8 used as an icon! It’s usually just kept to 10 and 9. There are a grand total of five symbols with unique artwork. The knife, the hut and the canoe are regular icons. The angry totem is the Wild, while the pearl is the Scatter.

And while we enjoyed the available special features, we can’t help but wish for more. Nowadays, it’s quite common for slots to come with two or three bonuses from the get-go. But older games, especially physical machines? They kept any special features a rare treat, but made up for it by making them quite lucrative. The developers kept to this formula, so don’t be surprised if gameplay is a bit on the boring side.

Sorting your total bet can be a nightmare with the offered user interface. To do so, you have to change your coin value and the number of active paylines on each spin.
