It seems that software providers picked up on the general exhaustion players have with luxury themed slots. And so, we have seen them do alternate takes on these concepts. And if you ask us, this Gold Factory definitely qualifies!

A factory full of gold lying about everywhere, ready for taking and spending? We’d pick this place over Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory any day of the week! Except maybe Monday…

Gold Factory Slot Review

Gold Factory slot has a a five reel board, where each reel is three symbols tall. There are a total of fifty paylines which cannot be turned on or off, and pay left to right. To win, collect three or more identical icons in adjacent positions, starting with the leftmost reel. All wins must follow one of the currently active paylines, or the cash prize won’t be awarded to the online gambler.

A multi-stage special feature awaits the lucky players who succeed in activating it! You need only find three or more golden coins to start your journey. Then, in the boiler room, you will be able to find cash prizes. Alternatively, you can gain access to the second level, where you can find free spins and the Reactor bonus. And yes, you can score both the free spins and Reactor during the same special feature!

Theme & Symbols

Microgaming’s release is very clearly trying to create a whimsical atmosphere full of wonder. Of course, that much is obvious from the moment the music first kicks in. It’s not that we mind it that much, but it doesn’t feel particularly suitable for a slot. It makes Gold Factory feel like it’s for children rather than adults. And we’re sure we don’t need to explain the problems that arise from that…

No inspired background images to be found here. Just a massive vault with multiple entrances, a big pile of gold, and the reels sitting atop of said pile. Seeing as this game came out in 2011, this is a decent offering. You shouldn’t feel worried about the rest of the graphics in this release. What Gold Factory lacks in background, it more than makes up with its symbol designs.

Gold Factory Gameplay

Available icons include a pile of golden coins, a stack of golden bars and a cart full of gold as low value symbols. Then, gamblers can find a zeppelin, a submarine, a locomotive, the factory, a young boy and the gaudy factory owner. These are your medium and high value icons, though none can compare to the Wild!

How to Play Gold Factory

You play this slot on a 5×3 board with a total of 50 fixed paylines. The game has a medium variance and a jackpot worth 619,000 coins. As you can imagine, actually landing that win can be quite difficult! But it’s nothing a special feature or two won’t fix.

Well, there’s technically just one bonus available, but it has multiple stages. During the whole thing, you traverse through the factory, getting a good view of what this game offers. Free spins, pick-and-click, and a shot at some big wins? That’s an offer we’ll very rarely say no to!

You can change your total bet in two ways. First, you can tap the small circle on the left side of the screen, and drag your finger to reveal a bet to your satisfaction. You can further tweak it by going into the settings and manually setting your coin value and coins per payline. That means stakes between €0.50 and €100 on each spin.

Bonus Features

  • Boiler Room
  • After collecting three or more Scatters, players get access to this room. They get to pick between four chambers on the lower floor. There, they can find a cash prize, or the permission to visit the upper floor. The second level has two bonuses, triggered when their symbol is located. One is the free spins round, and the other is the Reactor special feature.

  • Free Spins
  • The factory owner lets you press a button, which reveals a number on the two large screens. This displays how many free spins you can win – which can be anything between 10 to 35 extra turns. During this bonus, all won cash prizes are automatically doubled.

  • Reactor
  • Gamblers playing in an online casino pick between twelve items, stopping only when they find the malfunction icon. There are two malfunctions within the twelve items, which end the special feature early. Any unselected items will grant a 1x consolation prize if not opened.

Summary

Usually, we can find one or two aspects to nitpick when it comes to older games. It’s very rare that a release has been able to resist the flow of time and remain competitive with new slots. And yet, that’s exactly what we found in Gold Factory! Beautiful animations, an engaging special feature, and a shot at winning a large jackpot. What more could players want?

The Positives!

  • It feels like almost every symbol is animated. This may seem like a small thing, but it helps this game from feeling outdated. Just watching this release being played is a spectacle by itself.
  • But you’re not just watching. You’re in the driver’s seat, which means you get to experience its special features for yourself! They don’t sound too exciting on paper. But when each click has a shot at triggering another bonus or a decent win? You learn to appreciate each second spent playing the special features!
  • And finally, it has a great jackpot and an above average RTP. All good news for gamblers who plan on chasing after Gold Factory’s top prize.

The Negatives…

  • The background image is the one stain on an otherwise visually appealing slot. If Microgaming had made it better, it might have taken the spot of our favorite game by that developer!

Despite having some flaws, we’d still warmly recommend playing this release. It’s clear as day the developers worked hard on it, and that they designed it with player profit in mind. Give it a try, you won’t regret it!
