The strong, seductive rhythm blares in the club. The scent of many perfumes blends in the air, along with the light stench of cigarettes. Booze flows freely for the patrons, who dance the night away in a hazy trance.

It’s a fun, simple theme for an equally engaging and straightforward slot! You’re on the VIP list in Playtech’s A Night Out, so make the most of the opportunity.

A Night Out Slot Review

This game is played on a five reel board, with each reel being three symbols tall. There are a total of 20 paylines, which players can turn on and off at will. This allows you to drop your stake further, which is great for low-budget online gamblers. But it comes with an obvious cost: less paylines means your odds of winning sink quickly.

Winning is a simple affair! Collect three or more identical icons in adjacent positions, starting with the leftmost reel, and watch your balance increase. All winning combinations must follow an active payline, or else the cash prize won’t be awarded.

There’s only one special feature available. Land the barkeep Bonus symbol on the first and fifth reel to trigger the free spins! But that’s not all! The special feature also grants a win multiplier, which applies to each win. You can retrigger free spins, with no limit as to how many times you can do it.

Theme & Symbols

As far as themes go, it’s definitely unique. We’re struggling to come up with other releases that tackled the thrills of night life. There are others, but they’re mostly framed as an extension of a luxury theme. But A Night Out is far from luxurious. It’s your local club with your local hotties, with cheap booze and friendly bartenders. We don’t know about you, but a place like that is much nearer and dearer to our hearts.

While you’re making a fashionably late entry, the party’s already in full swing! The lights have already been turned down low, so all you can make out are silhouettes of the drunk dancers. The background image is rudimentary, but it gets the job done. As it stands, the vast majority of the picture is a just a solid, dark purple block surrounding the reels. All of the things we mentioned are only visible above the reels.

And while everything else help up well, icon designs are the most obviously outdated. The cocktails and fruity drinks held up well, despite being the lower value symbols. Meanwhile, the babes and the barkeep are clearly suffering from a bad case of early 2000s graphics. Most of them are passable, except for the brunette in the yellow dress. She looks like she lost her nose somewhere on the way to the club!

How to Play A Night Out

You play this game on a 5×3 board with 20 flexible paylines. Players are able to turn paylines on and off, but it’s not as big of a deal as you think. We like that it’s an option, don’t get us wrong. But we don’t see a lot of gamblers turning off winlines when they could just lower their wager instead. Then again, it could be useful. In the desperate, last stand trying to get a win from this high volatility nightmare kind of useful!

Honestly, the sole special feature being just a free spins round was more detrimental than the outdated graphics. Players usually don’t mind dated visuals if the gameplay underneath is solid. Playtech is proof of that, and so are developers like WMS and IGT. But while just one bonus was enough all those years ago, that’s not the case now.

But while it’s not the most thrilling release, the prizes it awards makes it worth the trouble. A Night Out lets you bet as little as €0.01 per spin! Of course, you have to leave only one payline up, which is anything but profitable in the long run. Your maximum stake goes up to €20 on each spin. And the jackpot is a stunning 10,000x your total bet!

Bonus Features

If you like your games volatile and simple, then this one will easily win you over. There’s just one bonus available, and is drastically increases your odds of winning big.

  • Free Spins & Multipliers
  • When the barkeep lands on the first and fifth reel at the same time, it triggers this special feature. You pick between different babes to reveal how many free spins will be played – between two to twenty. Then, it’s time to buy her a drink! Depending on what drink you choose, you get a multiplier between 2x and 10x. There’s no limit on how many times you can retrigger the bonus. Theoretically, you could play it until the end of time. But reality is often disappointing.

A Night Out Payouts

Playtech’s release has a high volatility, and a jackpot worth 10,000x your total stake. A Night Out’s RTP is 97.06%, which is a whole percentage point above the current industry average.

Summary

It’s not that this slot is bad. It’s just that technology got better, and our expectations increased as a result. Few games today will be able to rival it when it comes to the sheer amount of cash you can win. But that’s not the only metric we look at for our reviews.

The Positives!

  • Each spin has a shot at earning you 10,000x your total stake. Well worth its high volatility salt!
  • The theme is also relatively unique. Most party releases tend to make it extravagant and over the top. A Night Out keeps it simple and relatable, which was one of the reasons we liked it.

The Negatives..

  • The graphics are alright, but they’ve clearly been surpassed. This is only natural for a slot originally released back in 2005, but it’s a factor we have to consider.
  • There’s just one special feature available. If it was just that, we’d be able to forgive it. But then that bonus is a free spins round with a multiplier special feature. Summed up in two words: painfully generic.

It doesn’t have engaging gameplay, but the prizes have remained amazing. Despite this, we wouldn’t recommend it to gamblers. It’s just too outdated to be interesting. If you’re looking for high volatility and simple gameplay, try something like Book of Dead.
