Rise of Olympus is played on a five reel board, where each reel is five symbols tall. Wins are granted when three or more identical icons are collected in any position, both vertically and horizontally. Each successful win will cause the symbols that were part of that combination to disappear, leaving only a Wild behind.

On each non-winning spin, one of three random special features can fire. Which one triggers depends on which god is currently active: Hades, Poseidon or Zeus. Landing multiple consecutive wins also fills the Wrath of Olympus meter, which will trigger all three random bonuses in quick succession. This game is great for people who love Greek mythology. And even if you’re not invested in that story, you will probably like this Play’n Go release. Every character that appears is instantly recognizable. It’s not just that they appear on the reels, but the background also changes behind them! That helps immersion a lot.

As we already mentioned, there are three background images. You have Poseidon’s underwater realm, Zeus’ awesome view from atop the clouds, and Hades’ personal hell. Each deity appears in their corresponding realm, with one exception. The background does not shift when all three deities are firing off their special features at the same time.

Icon designs are all completely unique, even if they’re not the most impressive of the lot. You’ll find Zeus’ lightning bolt, Poseidon’s trident, Hades’ helmet and Orpheus’ lyre as lower value symbols. Meanwhile, Poseidon, Zeus and Hades, any combination of those three, and the Wild are higher paying icons.
