One of Bally’s timeless land-based classics makes its way to the online space! Cash Spin slot is now available, and so is OG24’s review of it! Read on to learn all the ins and outs of this legendary game!
While some developers thrived when slots shifted away from physical machines, others were left behind and forgotten about.
And while we have fond memories of Bally, their stubbornness certainly did not do them any favors. Today, they’re a subsidiary of SG Digital, and mostly re-release their older games.
Cash Spin Slot Review
Cash Spin is played on a five reel board, where each reel is three symbols tall. Instead of using paylines, this Bally release uses 243 ways to win. This means you only need to collect three or more identical icons in adjacent positions for the win to count. It also has to start with the leftmost reel, but that’s a minor sacrifice compared to having to follow paylines. Although that does mean we’re stuck with the wagers Bally offers us.
Physical machines were notorious for not offering many special features. But Cash Spin doesn’t have that problem. It offers not one or two, but three different bonuses! There’s a bonus wheel, which can reward you with free spins or a cash prize. A free spins bonus where all wins are doubled, and which can be retriggered five times. And finally, there’s a pick-and-click special feature where you can earn up to 50x.
Theme & Symbols
Sadly, one thing that did carry over from its physical machine days is the absence of an actual theme. In fact, graphics as a whole are seriously outdated. When Bally launched this slot for online play back in 2015, they didn’t bother updating the visuals. The end result is plain to see… and plain to look at.
The background image is a mixture of different shades of blue. It’s better than having nothing, but that’s a rather low standard to have. We’re willing to be a bit more lenient, all things considered. But there’s no getting around the fact it looks bad right now. Symbol designs are exactly what you’d expect from a game called Cash Spin. You’ve got your dollar signs, various precious gems, diamonds and filler playing card royals. The developers added a few decorations to make them stand out a bit more. But it’s just not enough to capture player attention.
How to Play Cash Spin
Bally’s release is played on a 5×3 board with 243 ways to win. It has a low volatility and a top prize worth 1000x your total bet. That sounds great for this variance, right? Well, it is. To get this prize, you’d have to win a full reel of the top paying icon, while free spins and its 2x multiplier are active. To say that the odds are stacked against you would be majorly underselling it.
We were pleasantly surprised by the number and variety of special features on offer here. There’s a bonus wheel, a free spins round, and a pick-and-click special feature. Another thing we liked was that you can use one to trigger the other. For example, the bonus wheel can grant a free spins round. But you can win both the bonus wheel and the pick-and-click special feature while playing free spins.
One thing that was changed was that Cash Spin swapped from coins to credits when the online version came out. Now, you know exactly how much you’re wagering, instead of having to guess. In that regard, Bally beats Aristocrat by a mile! You can wager €0.40 as a minimum, or €480 as a maximum. That’s a massive bet spread, and one that’ll seriously tempt many high rollers to try this slot.
If you like special features, then this game has you covered! Some are clearly more profitable than others, but all of them offer distinct gameplay. It keeps Bally’s release from getting stale, and keeps you invested for longer while you spin the reels.
Collect three Scatters on reels one, three and five to win a single spin of the bonus wheel. Gamblers can either win a direct cash prize, or they can activate the free spins round.
A total of twelve free spins are played when this bonus is triggered. During free spins, all wins are doubled. On top of that, players can activate both the Bonus Wheel and Money Bag special features. It is possible to retrigger free spins, and you can do that five times per activation. That’s a maximum of 60 free spins.
Three Money Bag Scatters on the second, third and fourth reel activate this bonus. Pick a bag to reveal the cash prize hidden within. The maximum you can win from this special feature is 50x your total bet.
Cash Spin Payouts
Cash Spin has a low volatility, and a jackpot worth 1000x your total bet. The slot’s RTP is 94.20%, which is below the current industry average by almost two percentage points.
You don’t need to be a reviewer or to have played a thousand games to know you’re getting a raw deal here. Don’t get us wrong, Bally’s release certainly has potential for something interesting. But it’s hampered by the technology of its time, and has since been outclassed on all fronts. Sadly, that also applies to special features.
For us, gameplay diversity is very important to keep a slot feeling fresh. Cash Spin’s multiple bonuses are good at keeping you from getting bored.
The low volatility means less than stellar wins, but on the other hand, they do come quite frequently. It’s great for more casual gamblers or newer players just dipping their toes into these types of games.
A 1000x jackpot is awesome considering how low the variance is.
We don’t want to call the graphics non-existent, because they’re not. But they’re so outdated that it wouldn’t make much of a difference, at this point. Whether your background is shades of blue, or just a raw black color doesn’t particularly impact anything.
Any RTP below 96% is something we avoid recommending. We usually make exceptions for progressive jackpots, but we call it out everywhere else. And at 94.2%, it’s too low for us to close one eye and pretend we didn’t see it.
In the end, we decided not to recommend Cash Spin. It simply has too many glaring problems for us to justify playing it.
