Africa Gold is played on a five reel board, where each reel is three symbols tall. There are a total of ten fixed paylines, which pay left to right only. To win, collect three or more identical icons in adjacent positions, starting with the leftmost reel. All wins must follow one of the currently active paylines, or their cash prize won’t be awarded.

Collect three or more Scatters in any position on the reels to win fifteen free spins! Finding three or more Scatters while the extra turns are being played can retrigger the special feature. You can keep retriggering it until 300 free spins are played: at which point, no more retriggers are possible. So that’s all fine and good, but it gets even better! Because each win during free spins is enhanced with a 3x multiplier.

Theme & Symbols

There’s not much of a theme in this Belatra release. If you like animals and a sprawling grassland, you will probably enjoy Africa Gold. Even then, animals are the minority in this slot. You’ll also see an explorer with an absolutely amazing moustache, or some of the natives. It’s not the best theme ever, but it certainly beats no theme at all.

Graphics are passable. We won’t be taking points from the developer over them, but they could be better. Our main gripe seem to be the somewhat awkward animations. We can appreciate the developers including them in the game, but they needed a bit more work before launch. The background image is alright – it’s quite unassuming, so your eyes aren’t drawn to it at all.

Symbol designs are quite diverse in this Belatra release. You can see an explorer and a pair of native as the human icons. Then, there’s a gleaming diamond and a golden spear, followed by a giraffe, a peacock, and playing card royals. Stacked golden bars are the Scatter, while the giraffe, peacock and cheetah together make up the Wild.

How to Play Africa Gold

Africa Gold is played on a 5×3 board with 10 fixed paylines which pay left to right. The slot has a high volatility and a jackpot worth 180,000 coins on each spin. Each spin can be quite lucrative, but lacks any kind of real excitement. Free spins and multipliers have been done to death, and there’s nothing else to fill in the void.

If we had more special features, this wouldn’t be that big of an issue. We could always look to that other bonus to fill in the gap. But the only available special features are the filler bonuses you see in all other Belatra games. Two different types of gambles and a lucky wheel. No cascading reels, or re-spins, or anything actually engaging.

One more flaw this release inherited is the fact it only displays coins. This is annoying, since you can’t see how much each spin will set you back. So you’ll have to give it a test spin or two while looking at your online casino balance to determine how much each spin costs. At least you can change your stake easily by pressing the plus and minus keys.
